October 2007

October is a very scary month with the ghouls and goblins that can send our pets in orbit. Keep the little fellows in a secure place and give them tranquillizers when needed. In our house, with five grandchildren I’m sure it will be very exciting. We hope you have a good one.

There are various household items that are hazardous to your pet. Be sure to keep any of the following items up and away to ensure the safety of your pet.

These can cause liver and bleeding problems that must be monitored:

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.)
  • Acetaminophen
  • Rat and mouse bait

Stimulants:

  • Antidepressants
  • Diet pills
  • Cold and flu medications

Toxic/ Poisonous if swallowed:

  • Home insect products
  • Lead
  • Fabric softener
  • Lighter fluid
  • Mothballs
  • Solvents (paint thinner, etc.)
  • Flea and tick products
  • Vitamins (fat soluble, in excess)
  • Detergents
  • Tobacco products
  • Fly bait
  • Snail/slug bait
  • Liquid potpourri
  • Chocolate

Items that are caustic:

  • Bleach
  • Disinfectants
  • Drain cleaners
  • Oven cleaner/spray
  • Lime/scale remover

Next month will have poisonous plants and on November 15th it will be our 45th anniversary. Come in and have a piece of cake.
