She did it. Natalie Evelyn Williams, 7.5 lbs and 19 inches, female with fiery red hair. Born 3-20-09 at 12 noon by C section. Every one doing well, a little sore. Grandma has been helping out the last week and Granddad is getting tired of eating his own food. Granddad has also been busy building a rabbit cage for another grandchild’s pet rabbit. It makes us G-parents feel needed.

April is heartworm month. A quick review of the disease:

Spread by mosquito bites:  the injected larvae matures in approximately 4 months to a mature worm located in the heart or pulmonary artery. Causes heart failure and pulmonary disease. Easily diagnosed by blood test. Prevention is medication given by injection, applied to skin or palatable tablets. Treatment is very toxic and can cause severe complications depending on the stage of the disease when diagnosed. With the medications available today and the ease of application, heartworm disease is an easily controlled condition. We have mosquitoes year around, worse in the summer, so prevention is recommended continuously.

Summer is around the corner and vacations are being planned. Vaccinations should be updated for the pets whether they are being boarded or included on the vacation trip.
