Vacation was wonderful!! Managed to get the entire family (minus Michelle and Joshua –too small to travel) to Jackson Hole, Wy. Spent a delightful evening with Mrs. Nancy Luther, her daughter Lindsey and husband, Dr. Kailey and her husband. The Luthers have a beautiful home in the middle of the Tetons. The talk of Vet Med. between Dr. Marjorie, Dr. Matthew and Dr. Kailey got so heavy I forgot I was on vacation. The grandchildren got to see Old Faithful, elk, buffalo and even a grizzly. No one was attacked although there had been reports of a tourist being gored trying to pet the buffalo. Trout fishing and rafting in the cold river water was included. The scenery of the Tetons was unsurpassed.

Back to reality:
Your pets, which are micro chipped, must have an accurate personal identification update if the original information has been changed (address, owner change, current phone number etc.) Call our office to obtain the phone number of the microchip company, or call Home Again at 1-866-738 4324 or
Avid at 1-800-336-2843.
A reminder that even though the county recognizes the three year rated rabies vaccination, annual physicals with checks for heartworms, intestinal parasites, eye ear and teeth exams, skin tumors, heart and lung evaluations are a necessity. Vaccinations for Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Kennel Cough and, where appropriate, Lymes Disease, should still be kept current .Complete blood counts are encouraged especially in the geriatric patient.

     GLAUCOMA
Glaucoma is a condition of the eye caused by increased pressure in the globe causing blindness. Commonly, the breeds usually affected are cockers, bloodhounds, bassets, and dachshunds. Other breeds can also be effected. Glaucoma manifest itself as an enlarged globe, cloudy cornea and red inflamed sclera The condition is painful to the touch and is considered a emergency condition as the increased pressure will cause permanent blindness. Medications can usually manage glaucoma. If the increased pressure is not managed, eye removal may be required. Surgical procedures occasionally will give good results.. Rarely is glaucoma found in both eyes at the same time but frequently, the normal eye may be effected 6-8 months later. Diagnosis can be made with instrumentation. The earlier the diagnosis, the better the chances of medical management.

School is near and children will be going to and from school. Be extra vigilant when driving.
