Aug. 08 Newsletter               INDIAN RIVER ANIMAL HOSPITAL INC.

Mom and I have the  “ Summer Time Blues”.  In order to remedy the condition, we’re going to take a 10 day cruise from the 14th of Aug .to the 24th. The office will be open to dispense food and medication .It may make it a bit hard to Ok prescription medications with the pharmacist so make arrangements to have an adequate supply during this time period. Veterinary treatments will be available with local veterinarians and the Fort Pierce referral center. at 466 3441.

School is about to resume and the kids will be out and about. Watch for them and cheer the  “ Fighting Indians “ to a successful season.

Please be aware of the recent incident concerning the ferrel kitten, which had rabies. A large number of well meaning people were exposed and are now being treated with preventative medication for the disease. These stray animals can appear to be normal but can take as long as months to exhibit the disease after exposure to a rabid animal.  These cute strays can be dangerous.

On a lighter note, we highly recommend cats, which are outside, have Feline infectious viremia vaccine to be included in their annual vaccine program. This is an immune deficit (aids like) disease, which is commonly spread by catfights.Thedisease manifest itself  by symptoms of poor response to treatment  for other infectious conditions. If test indicate the disease when the pet is symptomatic, good husbandry can prolong life. Not a good prognosis if symptoms are present.

A PROUD ANNOUNCEMENT. Mom and I are going to be grandparents again. Our Marj is the mother hen. Of course were holding our breath going through amniocentesis etc.
