We did it one more time. The hurricane came and went causing minimal damage to our family and us. Some stray roof shingles and the shrubbery damage is a given with these episodes. We hope you were as fortunate. Thankfully, there were no Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama catastrophes.

Hopefully, the pets and their owners were not too anxious in Wilma’s passing. The post hurricane stress syndrome may be rough on the owners and the pets may also develop minor intestinal problems, which can be cleaned up with antibiotics and intestinal peristalsis depressants. Also, be aware that many refrigerators and freezers will have spoiled foods, which are disposed into garbage containers. Unleashed pets may help themselves to these tasty smelling morsels and in ingesting this they can become quite ill.
Stagnant water is also a No, No.

This summer with all the hurricanes we emphasis that all pets should have some type of permanent identification. We encourage the microchip system. It’s permanent and the pet is registered.

Thanksgiving is around the corner with all the hype that goes with it. As has been mentioned in previous newsletters chocolate can be toxic if eaten in large quantities. It acts like a stimulant and can cause dysentery in pets. Of course, candies and goodies in excess can cause severe distress.

Drs. Marjorie and Matthew Williams will be spending time with us at Thanksgiving. It will truly be family affair.

November 2nd is our grandson Jeffery’s 13th birthday.  We have our first teenager grandchild.

We at Indian River Animal Hospital wish you and your pets a Happy Thanksgiving.

NOVEMBER PET OF THE MONTH IS RUDY LONERGAN  special friend of Catherine Lonergan.
