Ultrasonography

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! It’s that time of year again, it seems I’ve just finished paying for last Christmas. Here we go again. The Irish branch of the Johnson family (Stu, Leslie, and the grandchildren) will not be able to make it home for the holidays. Michelle and Bobby will be in Gainesville awaiting the arrival of the new Mr. Johnson. Fortunately, our Marge will be home; otherwise it would be pretty quiet around the Johnson family.  We plan to all congregate at the Cavot Lodge in Gainesville in order to cheer for Michelle in the delivery room. So with all of the above we wish all of you and yours and your pets a most happy and rewarding holiday season.

ULTRASONOGRAPHY

What in the world is this strange disease??? Actually, ultrasound is becoming a valuable supplement to our arsenal of diagnostic aides. The principal is similar to marine sonar.  X-ray is indispensable in demonstrating high-density structures (such as bone, high-density tissue, and areas of liquid such as the bladder, or areas of air such as the lungs.) Ultrasound is very valuable in demonstrating subtle changes in soft tissue such as fibrosis of the liver, kidney, bladder, etc. It also demonstrates urinary problems such as sand and stones, abscesses and cysts of various organs, and also early pregnancy.  We have just installed an ultrasound machine in our clinic, and it should prove to be a great asset.

Have a fabulous and safe holiday season, and don’t forget to put your pet’s name on Santa’s list.
We all look forward to seeing you in the new year.
